Scaffolding planks are temporary structures used by builders to provide support during the construction of a building. These planks are made of either wood or steel, and the type of plank you use will be determined by the type of construction being done. There are several types of scaffold planks, which include the following:
1. Single Scaffolding Planks
This type of scaffolding is commonly used for brick masonry. It is composed of structures such as ledgers, standards, and putlogs. The plank is placed about 1.2 metres from the wall while working. The standards are spaced 2 to 2.5 meters apart, while the ledgers are spaced 1.2 to 1.5 meters apart. Each putlog has one end attached to the wall and the other to the ledger. All of this is done to provide maximum support for the workers' weight.
2. Double Scaffolding Planks
Double scaffolding is primarily used in stone masonry. This is due to the fact that the putlogs cannot be inserted through the stone walls. The double-row scaffolding is designed to provide maximum support. The putlogs are inserted between two rows that are 1m apart in this case, and the temporary structure is placed 20-30cm from the wall. Cross braces and rakers are also used to provide additional support.
3. Cantilever Scaffolding
This is the kind of scaffolding that uses needles to support the standards. Constructors either strut the needles through the floor or the wall openings. This type of scaffolding is typically used when the ground is not traffic-free or cannot support standards. Another example is when the upper portion of a building is under construction. When constructing this type of scaffolding, however, care must be taken to ensure that no damage occurs.
4. Suspended Scaffolding
Chains or wire ropes are used to suspend the scaffold from the roof in this case, and it can be adjusted to any level required. This scaffolding is used for repairs, painting, and pointing.
5. Trestle Scaffolding
This is a type of scaffolding in which the working platform is supported by movable ladders or tripods and is approximately 5 meters long. It is primarily used in rooms for repairs, painting, and other similar activities.
6. Steel Scaffolding
It is made of steel tubes that are joined together with steel fittings or couplers and is very simple to assemble and dismantle. This is the strongest and most durable type of scaffold plank, and it is extremely safe for workers. As a result, it is now widely used in construction.
7. Patented Scaffolding
This is a type of scaffolding made of steel that is designed to form bracket-like structures for workers to work on. This type of scaffolding is ready-made and is always available on the market.
