Scaffolds in the Petrochemical Industry
The petrochemical industry is still vital to the global economy because it converts fossil fuels into the chemical components of plastics, detergents, synthetic fibers, and other necessities. Petrochemical facilities primarily consist of chemical processing plants and refineries that produce large quantities of olefins, aromatics, and synthesis gases.
Petrochemical facilities use massive tanks, tall chimneys, and vast warehouses to enable such large-scale chemical production, so access can be difficult when performing maintenance on sensitive equipment. Petrochemical scaffolds can be quickly and easily built for maintenance, allowing safe access to otherwise inaccessible points in petrochemical facilities. Scaffolds are used in these facilities to provide efficient and cost-effective access to boilers, vats, pressure vessels, steam generators, chimneys, and other elevated equipment.
Scaffolds in the Refinery Industry
The petrochemical industry includes the refinery industry, which converts crude oil into new, usable chemical products. Although unprocessed oil has few practical applications, its distilled and purified components can be used in a wide range of products. As a result, oil refining is a multi-trillion-dollar industry in and of itself, and refineries produce the gasoline, kerosene, and diesel fuel that power a significant portion of the economy.
Refineries, like other petrochemical facilities, use many large pieces of equipment that can only be accessed via scaffolding. Heating exchangers, cooling towers, pressure vessels, and piping are all commonly elevated to the point where they cannot be easily accessed without the use of support structures. Scaffolds play an important role in keeping sensitive equipment running and maintenance employees safe because most routine maintenance in a refinery occurs some distance above ground.
Scaffolding for the Construction Industry and Other Industries
Scaffold platforms are most closely associated with the construction industry of all industries that use them. Scaffolds are used at almost every stage of construction to provide structural support while also allowing laborers safe and convenient passage. Construction scaffolds are also designed to safely bear static and dynamic loads, allowing workers to carry and store heavy equipment safely even at a height. This benefit, when properly sized, also reduces the number of trips that workers must make around a worksite, which can significantly increase efficiency while also protecting against strain.
